Wal-Mart

I would like to qualify this post by letting you know that I happen to talk with and am friends with many people who work at Wal-Mart.. that being said -

I was driving by that store the other day and I saw one of the oldest guys I've seen in a long time pushing shopping carts into the store. This guy probably stormed the beaches at Normandy and here he is trying to make ends meet (which doesn't say a whole lot about how our government treats older citizens and our veterans). Don't they have young management that could help out with that, or are they too important? That store just ticks me off. It didn't use to, back when Mr. Walton was alive and he instilled values and morals into the company. Since he died though, that store has sunk into some kind of seventh level of hell.

I feel sorry for the people they employ, well, those below management level. They have to put up with so much for so little and I think they are starting to understand the fact that the company views them as "very cheap to replace", so "shut up and take it".. it's almost as if Wal-Mart should issue a "cattle bell" with their ripoff "uniform" of Target, since they are nothing more than cattle to them.

Anyone have anything to say about Wally World (good or bad)?

  1. Speaking from the inside I have seen what the majority of the workers in a single facility make and let me tell you it is far below the average they (Walmart)insist it is. I have seen many workers put in 75 to 80 hours every two weeks and net somewhere in the neighborhood of $400 to $600 for the luckey ones. "Save money, live better" , what a load of crap, how about earn more money, live better. The high cost of low prices.......

  2. Well, I can tell you speaking from about 80-90% of America that has at one time been employed by WalMart, I know exactly what you are talking about!

I spent almost twenty years at WalMart in their loss prevention (converted to Asset Protection) program. I was promoted to Asset Protection Coordinator (basically a "management" position). I saw what they did from the inside, how they thought about and how they treated associates. You are absolutely correct -- what they spout is a load of crap. It's all about image. They want this image of "we're great", but the truth shows what they are about.... too many associates are scared to lose their jobs (which, in this economy is understandable) to speak the truth... they speak up... they are fired....

    Wow, sorry for ranting...
